On Monday, the Conservative Group on Calderdale Council assembled for its Annual Meeting.
It was decided that Councillor Steven Leigh MBE would continue to lead the Conservative Group, throughout the next municipal year. Councillor Howard Blagbrough was appointed as Deputy Leader, following the departure of Stephen Baines MBE, at the last election.
There was an enthusiastic and buoyant atmosphere at the meeting. The Conservative Group will soon outline its priorities for the coming year.
The Group is focused on building support for the Conservatives in Calderdale, and earning the trust of residents. As the main opposition group, there is a determination to hold the Labour Council to account, and be seen as an Administration in waiting.
"I am delighted to have been asked by my fellow colleagues to continue as Leader of the Conservative Group" said Cllr Leigh, adding, "we are determined to deliver on the priorities of residents in Calderdale. As a community, we are facing challenges; the cost of living, rising inflation and energy bills, to name a few. We are here to support residents, and deliver on a joined-up plan to address these problems. I look forward to working with Conservative colleagues in the coming months, to put forward our proposals to provide better services, spend taxpayers' money wisely and level-up communities across Calderdale".
