At the recent full Council meeting in September, the Conservative Group proposed a motion urging the Labour Government to reconsider its plans to cut winter fuel payments for pensioners who are not eligible for pension credit.
Unity was strong among the opposition parties, with the Liberal Democrats submitting a small but valuable amendment to provide warm packs of clothes and blankets to vulnerable pensioners.
Labour Councillors lacked the courage and heart to support the opposition parties and voted against the amended motion.
Labour then exploited the Council’s constitutional rules by submitting an unrelated amendment which focused instead on blaming the Conservatives - yet another example of Labour prioritising their party over the interests of the residents.
Conservative Cllr Issott also called out the hypocrisy and criticised Labour Councillors for laughing during the debate.
