Mark Edwards has been selected to stand in Sowerby Bridge, at the upcoming local elections.
Mark has a detailed plan of action for Sowerby Bridge:
- A reliable 7-day waste and recycling service. We need clean streets and to make it easy to get rid of rubbish. Mark wants to see the reduction in opening hours at Sowerby Bridge tip reversed to a full-time, 7-day site. Additionally, Mark will also fight to protect weekly recycling collections.
- Tackling anti-social behaviour. Residents have complained to Mark about anti-social behaviour across the ward, and the amount of dog fouling on local parks. The Conservative Budget includes more community wardens with mobile CCTV vans to deter crime, and clean-up crews to keep our parks and green spaces tidy.
- Scrapping the new parking charges and backing businesses. Mark wants to see Sowerby Bridge thrive, which means backing local businesses. Labour's extension of parking charges until 8pm is a burden on our high street. The Conservatives would scrap the extended charges and make it free to park once more from 6pm.
- Protecting our heritage and investing in our high street. The Government is providing £2 million to invest in Sowerby Bridge to celebrate our heritage assets, and make our town even better - bringing in more visitors, and customers for local businesses.
- Fighting against the incinerator. Mark will keep up the fight alongside Conservative colleagues and residents to stop the proposed incinerator at the Belmont Industrial Site in Triangle. In February 2021, the Labour Cabinet had the chance to fight it in the courts and to vote against the incinerator, however, Labour councillors in Sowerby Bridge couldn't even convince their own leaders to vote the right way - instead, they voted to approve it. Luckily, thanks to local campaigners and residents, the application has now gone to judicial review. We need to continue the fight to keep our air clean in Sowerby Bridge.
- Keeping our streets clean. The Conservatives have a plan to keep our green areas tidy and to fight fly-tipping. Labour reduced the opening hours of our local tip and introduced waste charges - almost encouraging fly-tipping. We have a plan to catch fly-tippers in the act, and take them to court. The Conservative Government have recently announced that waste charges will be scrapped!
If you live in Sowerby Bridge, including Willowfield and Pye Nest - vote for Mark Edwards on Thursday 5 May.
