Shakir Saghir has been selected to stand in Park Ward, at the upcoming local elections.
Shakir is committed to delivering change for Park Ward, including:
- More affordable and better-quality housing. Overcrowding and poor quality housing is a big issue across Park Ward. The Conservative Government funded the Beech Hill Estate scheme which will provide good quality housing for local residents. The Government is also committed to improving rented homes with insulation, this will improve energy efficiency and keep homes warm.
- Backing local businesses and scrapping the new parking charges. Park Ward is a business-minded and entrepreneurial community, we need more support from the Council to help us thrive. The Conservatives will scrap Labour's car parking charges, and make it free to park again from 6pm.
- Supporting taxi and private hire drivers. The Licensing Department is too slow to process applications and is letting hardworking people down. Local drivers feel that the Council is ignoring their issues and making it more difficult to operate in Calderdale. Shakir will campaign to fix this.
- Keeping our streets clean. There is too much rubbish on our streets, attracting pests and vermin. This is a top priority and the Conservatives would recruit more maintenance teams to clean them up.
- Strong on law and order. Our Beating Crime Plan will make those offenders on community sentences clean up the streets and our parks. We will also clamp down on antisocial behaviour across Park Ward, with more Police and mobile CCTV vans.
- Standing up for family and religious values. The Labour-run Council does not listen to the concerns of our community. I will make your voice heard on the Council.
If you live in Beech Hill, King Cross, off Parkinson Road or Queens Road, near People's Park or the Parkinson Lane area - vote for change, vote for Shakir Saghir on Thursday 5 May.
