Steven Leigh is standing for re-election in Ryburn Ward, at the upcoming local elections.
Steven has a joined-up plan for Ryburn Ward, to deliver on your priorities:
Protecting the Green Belt. Our area has seen a large amount of development over the years and we need to protect our beautiful environment. It is our countryside which brings people into Ryburn and we need to protect it for future generations to enjoy.
Stopping speeding. The issue of speeding is one of the major problems facing Ryburn. The Labour-run Council has failed to tackle the problem. Steven handed in a petition on behalf of local residents calling on the Council to take serious action, and furthermore, alongside residents, your local Conservative Team have purchased a speed indicator device to discourage speeding drivers. We will continue to work to introduce effective deterrents to tackle the problem.
Levelling-up Sowerby. The area would benefit from your local Conservatives' £2 million fund to tackle anti-social behaviour and provide improved community facilities, such as investment in parks and sports facilities. Sowerby has not got a fair deal for years, and the area lacks amenities. The Conservatives will deliver on the priorities of local residents.
Backing local businesses. Ripponden is set to benefit from Central Government's allocation of almost £400,000 for high streets in Calderdale, from the Welcome Back Fund for investment in its high street, outside facilities and community events. Additionally, the Conservatives will scrap parking charges in neighbouring towns such as Halifax and Sowerby Bridge - making it free to park once more from 6pm.
Caring for our environment. We will continue to fight alongside residents, against the proposed incinerator at Triangle and we are investigating pollution in the River Ryburn. Labour approved the incinerator, but thanks to the hard work of local residents, it has now gone to judicial review. We need to keep up the pressure and keep our air and water clean in the Ryburn Valley.
Saving local amenities. Working alongside residents groups and the Ripponden Parish Council, we will fight to save our local community assets, such as Ripponden Library, which are being closed by the Labour-run Council. We will also work hard to source investment in local facilities such as Ripponden's Tennis Courts.
If you live in Barkisland, Mill Bank, Kebroyd, Krumlin, Rishworth, Ripponden, Sowerby or Triangle - re-elect Steven Leigh on Thursday 5 May 2022.
