Peter Hunt and Andrew Tagg have been selected to stand in Ovenden Ward, at the upcoming local elections.
Peter and Andrew want to deliver a fresh start for Ovenden and Wheatley:
- Fresh Start for Ovenden. Ovenden would benefit from your local Conservatives' Estate Regeneration Fund of £2 million, to invest in community and sports facilities, and to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. Shroggs Park would be restored to its former glory.
- Beating Crime Plan. The Conservative Government are putting more 'Bobbies on the beat' to keep our streets safe, alongside an increase in CCTV and street light coverage, and additional home security. Andrew and Peter will also campaign for a local Police Hub.
- Improving local education. As confirmed by the Education Committee’s report, The forgotten: how White working-class pupils have been let down, Peter and Andrew will demand that children in Ovenden get the support that they deserve. We need to overhaul education in Calderdale and provide fair opportunities for children in North Halifax.
- Cleaning up our streets. We will make those on community sentences clean up our streets, through the Conservative Government's Community Payback Scheme and make yobs repay their debt to society. We also have a plan to fight fly-tipping and scrap waste charges at Council tips.
- Sort out the roads. Roads across Ovenden and Wheatley are a disgrace. A Conservative-run Council will fix thousands more potholes and provide better repairs - through our additional investment in the Highways Service. Andrew and Peter will also campaign to improve road safety with new weight restrictions on roads entering Wheatley, including Brackenbed Lane, Wood Lane, Straight Lane and Jumples Cragg.
- Protecting local children. Andrew and Peter are backing the calls made by Robbie Moore MP for Keighley, for a 'Rotherham Style' inquiry into grooming, which would look into why the authorities failed to protect our children and deliver justice for the victims. The Labour-run Council and Labour Mayor have ruled out an inquiry, we will not let them sweep this issue under the carpet.
If you live in Ovenden, Furness, Wheatley or Lee Mount - Vote for Peter Hunt and Andrew Tagg on Thursday 5 May.
