This week, Conservative Councillors for Hipperholme and Lightcliffe and local residents presented their petition to Calderdale Council’s Place Scrutiny Board for new play area equipment in the Bailiff Bridge Park, with Council officers and Councillors promising to help residents find investments from external sources to fund new play area equipment.
The meeting heard from lead petitioner, Malcolm Silkstone, who explained all the play equipment was unsuitable, and the Park has had the same set of swings since he first moved to the area over 50 years ago.
Malcolm went on to say more investment in the Park would bring health benefits to the community and pointed out that multiple housing developments in the area over the past couple of decades have increased the number of families with young children.
After the meeting, Malcolm Silkstone said:
“I am very happy with the outcome of the Scrutiny meeting. The petition required hard work over many evenings and weekends to gather signatures, but everyone was happy to sign it and wanted new play area equipment in Bailiff Bridge Park. The petition was a complete success, and I am looking forward to working with the Council. “
David Kirton, Ward Councillor for Hipperholme & Lightcliffe also said:
“I am really pleased that this was considered at Scrutiny, and that advice will be provided to Malcolm Silkstone on ways of raising funds for improving the play area.”
The meeting concluded with the Council promising to help residents in Bailiff Bridge find investment from a range of organisations. Council Officers will soon attend the Park, and discuss with residents what new play equipment would be most beneficial to the community.
