Following strong opposition from local residents and Conservative and Liberal Democrat Councillors, Labour-run Calderdale Council has reversed its controversial plans to cut winter gritting services.
Conservative Group Leader Cllr Leigh said “I want to thank local residents, whose efforts were instrumental in forcing the Council to reverse these dangerous cuts. We had serious concerns about this policy and Conservative Councillors worked hard to pressure Labour’s Leadership to reverse the cuts. This thoughtless decision could have put lives at risk, and I’m relieved the Council changed course before any harm was done.”
